This is the story of my visits to a number of
churches in the county
Dublin region.
I usually visited three churches on any given journey. After a number of
such visits
the idea of
saying a specific prayer or a number of short special prayers in each came to mind
and gradually it evolved into saying a prayer in the first church for
relatives and friends
who have passed away. Then in the second church to say a prayer or
prayers for
friends and relatives who are in my life at the moment. In the third
church I would
say a prayer for people I might meet in the future. From here and on following pages of this website
I will show as best I can what I refer to as route 1 which starts at Dun
Laoghaire R.C. church.
travelling then to Sallynoggin R.C. church and then with a visit to
Johnstown/Killiney R.C.
church adjacent to Watsons estate. On occasions I have travelled to
Johnstown church first
and then made my way back via Sallynoggin church to Dun Laoghaire church.
I will then show some of the other routes in a similar way to the first route. I have completed a route
usually in an afternoon when the churches were in fairly close proximity.
When, on some few occasions, I have had a week off,
I have planned to visit churches which were a bit more distanced from each other.
I would plan to visit the first church on Monday or Tuesday, the second church on
Wednesday or Thursday and the third church on Friday. This would give me some
more travel to accomplish but would also give me a bit more time in each
individual church for prayer and contemplation.
On all
occasions of visits I naturally treated the church buildings and
traditions
with the respect afforded to all religious buildings and it goes without
saying showed
the same respect to all and any church staff whom I met.
On some occasions, such as, funeral masses I deferred my visit or as I said above
started the trip in reverse, starting after a journey from the church
which I usually ended at, so to speak.
On some occasions I started by taking mass first and then making the journey. If I was not taking
morning mass in any church, I found it best to arrive at the first church after morning mass or soon after the Angelus .
Mass times for churches are usually displayed on their individual websites. They,
morning masses, generally
are over soon after eleven thirty am. But I always found it best to check.
