Situated on Temple Road, Blackrock in County Dublin, this church
is an impressive 19th century construction. With a
beautifully ornate
tower it seems to lift itself up from the road view. The nave draws
the
eye directly to the central focus of the church which is its
exceptional
altar area which has as a raised backdrop a large stained glass
triple
set of windows. The baptismal font has again the eight sided design
at the top, representing eternal life, but it also has a very
beautiful
carved surround. The main, but not only shrine, is a quiet place
to sit and reflect.
The church is still in practical daily use, with the mornings given
over to Mass,
some Rosary groups in some
churches, and funerals. So unless I intended to
fully attend mass I
would normally keep my three Saints visits to the
afternoons, this is after the 12noon Angelus and before 3.30pm approximately.
