Route 4.
St Patricks, Monkstown.
With an ornate round
window over the main entrance door, this
Church building on
Carrickbrennan Road is impressive. It was
first opened in the mid
1860s and followed a similar build by
the architects to the
church in Glasthule. Internally it has many
wonderful features. It
has a beautiful altar backed by some stunning
stained glass windows.
Its baptismal font is on a raised area to the
right of the altar and
has the eight sided design which symbolises
the eight day and
eternal life. It has a central nave filled with bench
seating and a small
number of shrines.
The church is still in practical daily
use, with the mornings given over to Mass,
some Rosary groups in some
churches, and funerals. So unless I intended to
fully
attend mass I would normally keep my three Saints visits to the
afternoons, this is after the 12noon Angelus and before 3.30pm approximately.
Some internal features.
