St Michaels Church, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin.

Route 1.

St Michael’s, Dun Laoghaire.

St Michaels church Marine Road Dun Laoghaire

Saint Michael’s church Dun Laoghaire which is situated on the junction of Georges

Street and Marine road, with the main body of the church building running down

Marine road toward the seafront. The older church had a damaging fire during the

1960s and was rebuilt, except the tower steeple, in the early 1970s.

The tower seen in the image is the only remaining part of the original church

Inside the church are a number of exceptional images and statues along with

a number of shrines. What I would term the central nave does not run, as might

be expected from the main door to the altar, but rather from the southern wall to the altar.

There is to be also found a slightly unusual baptismal font just inside the main entrance to the church.

The church building has a number of bus services passing up Marine road

including the No 7, the No 7A, and the No 111.

The present bus routes may to be replaced by local route L11

up through Sallynoggin, and local route L21 up Sallyglen Road.

The church is still in practical daily use, with the mornings given over to Mass,

some Rosary groups in some churches, and funerals. So unless I intended to

fully attend mass I would normally keep my three Saints visits to the

afternoons, this is after the 12noon Angelus and before 3.30pm approximately.
