Route 1.
Our Lady of Victories Church.
The church in Sallynoggin is situated on Pearse Street on a sweeping bend
with a partially open green space in front of it and with shops directly
opposite across two roads which makes the green space a virtual island.
The church itself was opened in 1955 and dedicated to Our Lady of
Victories.
Inside the church can be found the usual layout of seating and a central
nave leading to an open plan type altar area. The baptismal font is
near the altar and close to the northern transept. There are a number of
notable
shrines and statues in the church. The Saint Kevin statue is to venerate
the local patron saint. The main shrine would be to our Lady of
Victories.
The outside of the church reminds me of older churches and is quite
striking as it stands out from the skyline as you approach it.
The church is still in practical daily use, with the mornings given
over to Mass,
some Rosary groups in some
churches, and funerals. So unless I intended to
fully attend mass I
would normally keep my three
Saints
visits to the
afternoons, this is after the 12noon Angelus and before 3.30pm
approximately.
